Looping background video

  

For a little more pop in your signage, try adding a looping background animation or video. A background video is a great way to add some subtle flair, but can also be a distraction, so make sure to choose the appropriate video for your design.

First, we need to find a video that works for our purpose. Looping videos are specifically designed to provide a seamless transition between the start and end of the video. This makes it appear as if it's one long video when in fact it's only a few seconds of video played over and over ad infinitum.

For our demo, we've chosen this video from videvo.net. Make sure to check the licensing for your video since some work can be prohibited from use in digital signage.

 

Step 1: Upload the background video to your Revel Digital account:

If necessary, download the video from your video provider (ie. videvo.net), then upload to your Revel Digital account. Note: it can take a few minutes for the video to process once uploaded.

 

 

Step 2: Create a playlist specifically for the background video:

We need a playlist to contain the video, to create a new Multimedia Playlist and add the background video as a source.

 

Step 3: Add the video to your template:

Next, we add the video to our template as a background. For this, we edit or create a template and add a Gallery zone for the video. Make sure the zone fills the entire template.

We have also added a clock to the template, but you can add any other content you like. It's important to keep the Gallery zone containing the background video at the bottom of the zones list. This ensures all other content will appear on top of the background video.

 

 

Step 4: Script the background to video to enable looping:

Open the Revel Script editor and add a line instructing the Gallery zone to loop. This can vary depending on Windows or Android players, this example is for Android.

 

Android: Media_Gallery_1.setLooping(true);

Windows: Media_Gallery_1.Looping = True;

 

Step 5: Schedule your template to play:

Now you can schedule your template as you would any other content, and enjoy the show!
