Linux Desktop Quickstart Guide

Initial Checklist
- Arm64 or Amd64 based PC/Raspberry Pi
- Sufficient available storage (32GB+ available)
- 4GB of RAM
- A CPU with a single thread rating above 2500 on this benchmark
- An installation of a Linux distro (We recommend Ubuntu)
- An active internet connection
Getting started
- Power on your device and navigate to the desktop.
- Connect the device to the internet via Wi-Fi or an ethernet connection.
- Download the latest Linux Revel Player compatible with the PC's architecture (under the Linux AppImage section).
- Move the Player AppImage file to the desktop.
- Install fuse2 via terminal. The command for Ubuntu is sudo apt install fuse2
- Make the AppImage file executable (Instructions for Ubuntu).
- Click the AppImage file to run the Revel Player.
- Configure Linux for auto-login.
- Disable the screen lock and screensaver.
- Disable Linux System Notifications.
- Disable Linux auto-update.
- Limit log size and increase log rotation. Instruction for Ubuntu
Notes
- This version of the Revel Player will start automatically on startup on modern Ubuntu distros.
- This version of Revel Player will automatically update to the latest player from the stable channel.
- The mouse cursor can be removed from the screen by using the program unclutter
